Charles O. Brown was born May 5, 1922, in Syracuse to Charles O. and Helen Purington Brown. The family moved to Rye when he was a child and lived at 24 Hillcrest Lane. They were members of the Presbyterian Church and Charles was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1938.
Charles earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Cornell University and studied for a master's degree in chemistry at Columbia University. He belonged to Theta XI fraternity at Cornell.
He served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Charles O. Brown, Jr. , 24 Hillcrest Lane, Rye, N. Y. , was recently promoted from second lieutenant to first lieutenant.

During the war Charles was promoted several times and served as a captain in the Army Chemical Corps in Delray Beach, Fla.
 He later returned to Rye and married Nancy Hamilton on Oct 25, 1952, in Scarsdale. They lived in Chicago for three years, where Charles worked for American Cyanamid. They then returned to Rye.
Charles had been vice president in charge of sales for Howard Hall International, a chemical import agent business, for 22 years. He was a member of the American Chemical Society.
He belonged Rye Rye Presbyterian Church, where he had been a deacon and elder. He belonged to the church bowling league from 1975 to 1985. He was active in the Boy Scouts from 1966 to 1969. He was past coach of the Rye Ravens Little League team from 1965 to 1969.
Charles had belonged to the Apawamis Club in Rye since 1948. He was a former club governor and senior golf champion there.
Charles Owen Brown Jr., a vice president of a chemical import agent business, died April 15, 1992 of leukemia at his home in Rye. He was 69.
He was survived by his wife; two sons, Jeffrey 0. Brown of Stamford, Conn., and Charles 0. Brown III of Cos Cob, Conn.; a daughter, Jean T. Brown of New York City; and a sister, Helen C. Reader of Rye.
